One of the most vital functions of a project manager is keeping track of the various task related to the current project. Whether its tied to resource allocation, completing a specific aspect of the project or just to have a general overview of what is taking place when and by whom to report on as needed; task management is the backbone to a project. However, in this current society this often requires a project manager to be in multiple places at once. Thankfully with the ever expanding realm of mobile technology a project manager can bounce between various locations without having to physically be there.
On the go
A project manager typically has to be in a lot of different places at a lot of different times. From meeting with the various teams working on the project one on one, to reporting all project information to the higher ups, to consulting with outside contractors for specific aspects of the project; a project manager is always on the go. Even with the ever increasing power of smartphones and tablets remaining connected can be difficult some times. Luckily there are a number of great mobile and desktop apps/programs that can help keep tabs on everything going on without having to run around. Additionally there are a number of great and often cheap apps/programs that can speed up communication between different groups within the project. What this all translates to is that while a project manager still needs to visit with and have one on one meetings with specific individuals and groups tied to the project they don't have to spend nearly as much time traveling between them.
Staying connected
As mentioned above there are a number of great and cheap apps/programs that allow all members of the group to stay in touch despite potential geographic differences. This not only takes some of the burden off of the project manager but foster a culture of synergy within teams attached to the project. This is especially beneficial when specific groups must collaborate to achieve their individual goals. For example a MAGAZINEpublication would have separate groups for writing and illustrating their publication. While each group has its own specific goals tied to that specific magazine they would need to work hand in hand for both parties to put out a quality product on time.
Conclusion
The internet is a wonderful resource for providing not only knowledge but also for networking with people across the world. When it comes to Online Task Management the internet paves the way for a project manager to not only keep everything on track but also establish an almost hive mind towards the completion of the project.
